BOOKCASE MOUNTING AROUND WALL PLATE

Thanks for joining us today here at Fresh's Workshop. If you are a first-time visitor, WELCOME. If you have been here before, THANKS for coming back.

This is the spot where we build and repair all kinds of cool stuff, along with making a ton of saw dust. (Man Glitter.)

During the last episode of Fresh's Workshop, we constructed a Plant Stand which has proven to be quite useful in the living room.

And today we are doing a simple chore. We are mounting a CD case on the wall.

Before we begin today's project, let's take a moment and talk about shop safety:
Be sure to read, understand and follow all of the safety rules that come with your power tools. Knowing how to use your power tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury. And remember this, there is no greater safety rule than to wear safety glasses.

Today, at Fresh's Workshop, we're installing a bookcase for CDs on a wall that already has light and fan switches.

Some background: We are planning to mount a huge TV on the Bedroom wall for a future project at Fresh's Workshop. It is currently sitting on top of a dresser.
The image shows that there is enough wall space above the dresser for a large screen TV. The photo was taken after the CD shelves were installed, offering a clear view of the setup. The next step in Fresh's Workshop will be the in-wall wiring installation.

This layout will also provide ample space for a ROKU and DVD player.

The bookcase, originally built years ago for my garage office and radio room in our previous house, will eventually need to be rebuilt. For now, the priority is to move it.

Previously, there was an aquarium in this spot, but I preferred it out of the way during the renovations, so it was relocated across the room (where the shelves used to be), and the bookcase was placed next to the dresser.

Hanging a large TV near the aquarium was something I wanted to avoid.

The project is quick, taking about an hour or so, including the time to restock the CDs.

Let's begin.

This is the designated spot for the bookcase, but the Switch Panel is obstructing the area.

The process begins with the removal of the floor moldings and the plate, which have been previously detached. Subsequently, we measure the distance from the door trim to the right side of the wall plate opening. Following that, we measure from the bottom of the wall plate opening to the floor, and from the top of the wall plate opening to the floor.

Now, we should compare those measurements to the bookcase to ensure that a shelf won't obstruct the area. If a shelf does interfere, we can elevate the entire bookcase to ensure the switch plate is centered in the space.

First, empty the bookcase and then transfer your measurements onto it. If you're skilled, you can measure from the front. Otherwise, flip the bookcase over and transfer the measurements to the back, making sure to measure from the left side since you are working from the rear. Next, use your cutting tool to remove the back section.
Position the case accordingly. I fastened mine with an "L" bracket at the top. Reattach the cover and the knob, and Bob's Your Uncle.
Now, put all those CD's back.

But Fresh, you're a computer guy and a former DJ. Don't you have your music on a hard drive?

Yes, I do. On three drives and an 80 Gig IPOD. But I am married, and Penny wants me to keep them. Need I say more?
Next week, we are tiling our Radio Room. I think. We may clean our gutters in an unusual manner, or we might make a Lazy Susan.

Also, more gardening coming your way as well,

See you then.
